Join as a Postdoctoral Researcher

We are always looking for candidates who wish to join as JSPS Research Fellows. Positions funded by IMS budgets or external grants may also be available. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

Join as a Graduate Student

We accept graduate students through the Department of Structural Molecular Science at SOKENDAI (The Graduate University for Advanced Studies). You can pursue your master's or doctoral degree while engaging in cutting-edge research on the optical science of nanomaterials.

About IMS & SOKENDAI

The Institute for Molecular Science (IMS) is one of Japan's leading national research institutions in the field of molecular science. It provides a research environment with cutting-edge facilities and researchers from diverse fields, dedicated to fundamental research. As a base institution of SOKENDAI (The Graduate University for Advanced Studies), IMS also plays a role in graduate education, offering opportunities to pursue degrees at the forefront of research.

The Department of Structural Molecular Science at SOKENDAI offers a research-focused educational environment distinct from typical universities. Under a small-group mentoring system, students can conduct research making full use of IMS facilities. The RA program provides generous financial support, ensuring an environment where students can concentrate on their research.

If you are considering graduate studies, please visit our lab. We look forward to hearing from you.

Why Join Us

Generous Financial Support

Through the Research Assistant (RA) program, graduate students can receive an annual salary of approximately 1.15 to 2.60 million yen starting from the master's program. This allows students to focus on their research without financial concerns.

Excellent Research Environment

Students have access to state-of-the-art experimental equipment at IMS and receive direct guidance from leading researchers in various fields. The interdisciplinary research environment spanning physics, chemistry, and biology is also a distinctive feature.

International Research Exchange

Through collaborative research with overseas researchers and participation in international conferences, students gain a global perspective. Active exchanges with other research groups within IMS are also encouraged.
